A large percentage of patients, mainly during the night, find a position in which they exert great pressure (bruxism) or repeat some movements exerting forces (teeth’ grinding). To protect them from these effects, the use of Centric Relation Occlusal splints is the evidence- based solution.
Occlusal splints are a special guard, fabricated of transparent hard acrylic, which covers the chewing surfaces of all the teeth of the upper jaw or the lower jaw, if there are fewer teeth in it. Its use is mainly at night, when forces and movements are not perceived. This leads to the protection and subsequent relaxation of the muscles and the removal of symptoms from straining the temporomandibular joint.
